Rewarding innovative practices in blended and online learning

Building resiliency into districts, schools, learning environments, and individual mindsets is critical to the future of schools in America―a need that was spotlighted and magnified by the onset of the pandemic.

In recognition of the innovative programs implemented in many schools nationwide (despite the pandemic’s challenges)―and to support and scale these successful initiatives―Future of School introduced the Resilient District Prizes (RDP) in 2021, which were awarded to diverse schools from coast to coast.

In the inaugural year of the RDP, districts, schools, and educators received funding for implementing the following programs and more:

  • Hands-on, digital biotechnology curriculum to drive student engagement, experiential learning, and academic progress in high school science classes.

  • Tech-based, student-centered learning environment to increase engagement and academic performance of English Language Learners (ELLs) in English language arts (ELA) classes.

  • Fully online program for students to receive support for their social and emotional health while nurturing relationships with each other and school staff.

Sustainable outcomes for educators, schools, and communities

GOAL

$825,000 to award 30 grants and create playbook of best/next practices for school districts nationwide

Educators’ innovative efforts are recognized, and their schools and students benefit from the funding to sustain and scale these successful programs.

Through local and national storytelling, districts and schools gain much-deserved positive attention for the impressive work they’re doing on behalf of students.

Districts are encouraged to develop resilient approaches to education that ensure students’ learning is high-quality and without disruption, despite any unexpected challenges.

By showcasing innovative solutions that work, more schools have the information and opportunity to build resiliency by implementing proven practices that enhance personalized learning.

Education leaders collaborate to refine and scale successful approaches, making them available to more students nationwide.

Though I’ve been able to reach Spanish-speaking students in my class, my students who speak other languages—Mandarin, Creole, and French (to name a few)—were slipping through the cracks. I’d applied for the RDP grant with the intention to purchase special headphones that could automatically and instantly translate my words into a variety of languages so that ALL of my kids could actively participate in class, most especially those who are still learning to speak English. Although simple in concept, these headphones offer a profound opportunity for student engagement and show how technology can be used in the classroom to enhance instruction and learning. To everyone’s delight, the new program has been a huge success!”
