I chose to take online courses because I was home schooled until my freshman year of high school. Homeschooling and OCA has allowed me to retain a sense of individuality. Without the ability to learn remotely I would not be the same individual I am today. I would not have the same level of passion, determination, foundational morals, community involvement, or the confidence that I have today. I truly believe that learning remotely has allowed me to achieve and retain higher thought which extends past the present and past myself as an individual to a larger community, country, and world. This level of higher thought is crucial to my identity as it impacts my daily life. I knew that in order to retain individuality, a flexible schedule, and opportunities for involvement in my community online education was the best option for me.
Taking online courses impacted numerous areas of my life. My academic performance is extremely high and I reach my full potential when I have the opportunity to learn online. Online learning gives me the opportunity to work at my own pace, find unique ways to solve problems, and reach my full potential. Attending my online high school has given me the opportunity to complete 11 ccp courses all which have been taken online. Without these educational opportunities I would be a less confident, less career ready, less focused, less happy, less accomplished, and less driven version of myself. An online education has allowed me to reach new educational heights as well as new personal and professional heights.
Because of the opportunities and flexibility of online learning I am the co-owner of A Royal Princess Party an entertainment business dedicated to creating magical experiences for children. Through my business I have volunteered to visit children with cancer in their homes to celebrate Christmas and worked with Make A Wish which are both memories I will forever cherish. I have been told by one mother that I inspired her non-verbal child to expand her limited vocabulary. I have worked with children with various disabilities including Down syndrome, autism, apraxia of speech, visual impairment, and more. Every child is a blessing to me.
Additionally, there is the business side with marketing, creation of dances, learning new songs, creating games, reading stories, improving, interacting with clients, coordinating with festivals, and more. The impact and growth I have had as an individual is also astounding. I am inspired by the children I encounter to be the best version of myself every day. None of this would be possible without the option to learn remotely. Online learning has allowed me to take business calls during typical school hours, attend events or parties at odd times, work on social media marketing during the day, and it has aided in giving me the confidence to start my own business. OCA my online high school has also enabled me to increase my volunteerism. I frequently preform concerts for several nursing homes in my area with my sister. Every concert takes place during typical school hours as do the more recent zoom concerts. My unique educational opportunities are truly my biggest asset when it comes to accomplishing, achieving, and growing professionally, personally, and academically.
I have never learned in a traditional classroom nor would I desire to. Online learning allows me to reach my full potential. I am a detail oriented individual and I strive to always do my best in every area of my life. A traditional classroom structure would not give me adequate time to accomplish what I typically do in a day. I devote more time to certain subjects and work quickly through others. I take breaks to work out during the day and work later into the night. Online learning allows me to take care of my body, mind, educational pursuit, and the business I co-own in a way that traditional school would never allow. My mother started homeschooling when I was in Kindergarten because of my older sister's school related anxiety. I am extremely thankful that my sister's educational needs led me to an alternative educational path that I would not have taken otherwise. We are both flourishing because of the unique education we have received from both home schooling and online education.
The reasons I chose online education are stated above for the most part however, there is one detail I did not share. I grew up with speech and took speech therapy until I was 11. I was frequently harassed by other children at my church for the way I spoke until I was around 13. If I had I gone to public school and endured more harassment I would not have had the confidence to perform on stage, start my own performance based business, or volunteer using my unique gifts. Online school has given me the chance to look within myself for confidence and find my own strength. My future is bright and I will succeed because online learning created an environment for me find my own path. For that I am thankful.
