The traditional classroom has become a battleground. Students battling other students, teachers enslaved by administration and state policies, and teachers playing referee. There are so many learning levels and learning styles combined into one classroom, that frustration and hostility reign.

In regular high school, I was one of those who struggled when the teacher wanted to move through assignments and chapters quickly. I could usually do the assignments, score an okay grade on an exam, but was never really the best I could be because there wasn’t time to figure things out. I would stay after, go early, do everything I could to get the help I needed, but the teachers either didn’t want to be there at that time, or there were so many other students there that they couldn’t really help me, just show me some steps on how to finish it, and move on.

When I first heard about Career Path High, I was intrigued. Not only would I be taking just required classes, but would also be able to get a jumpstart in my chosen career field. I felt liberated. I could learn at my own pace, in my own environment free of obnoxious interrupters, and have access to instructors willing to offer their time and some real answers. This plan was ideal for me.

I have always had an interest in computers and technology advances. I also enjoy building and creating things. My ideal career would be building mobile apps and websites to improve business and lifestyle function. My courses to date at the DATC have built a foundation and outlined the path necessary for this career goal to evolve.

I feel gratitude for the opportunity I have had to experience online learning with classroom support. This concept and learning style has been a perfect fit for me and my goals. I am excited to finish my IT certification courses and plan to continue career preparation by earning an Associate’s degree and eventually a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
