“As teachers have become more comfortable using technology in the classroom, they are looking for ways to leverage technology to provide even more authentic and personalized learning opportunities for students.

– Bridget Wilmot

This year, my district is piloting blended learning and flexible scheduling. The pilot includes nine teachers in five departments and students in all grades and of all abilities. Our main goals are a) to use blended learning and flexible scheduling to offer additional opportunities for personalized and differentiated learning; b) To provide a different path for student learning; c) To prepare students for college and career experiences; d) To improve skills such as self-discipline and time management; and e) To engage the disengaged student. Attending this workshop would provide me with the skills and materials to better train the teachers in this pilot on how to create the most successful learning experiences for our students in the cohort.

Additionally, this is the second year in our 1:1 initiative where all students and staff members have Chromebooks. The initial part of the 1:1 implementation focused on building a solid foundation for staff members to use and integrate technology into the curriculum. As teachers have become more comfortable using technology in the classroom, they are looking for ways to leverage technology to provide even more authentic and personalized learning opportunities for students. Getting this blended learning facilitator certification will allow an additional 11 teachers (outside of our pilot) to gain first-hand experiences with blended learning and to explore how they could implement the strategies in their own classrooms.
