This grant is important to us because of the extended needs of the district with the implementation of blended learning. I'm the right person to assist with the implementation based on my background of 20 years working & leading innovative instructional models. I am passionate about access and equity. At Jeffco Public schools, I was the online school principal and the Director of eLearning. I led the district wide implementation of BL. As an administrator in the largest school district in Colorado, I saw that most districts lacked resources, especially in tech & training. I was one of the initial school leaders at Colorado Virtual Academy since 2002. I have two sons who start blending kindergarten (before blended was "thing") & have since graduated to move on to post-secondary education institutions. I experienced the impact as a parent and as an educational leader. The potential of blended learning opens up access and opportunities which supports equity THROUGH access in education.
I’m very interested in project-based and blended Learning to support personalized learning. Kit Carson is an opt-out district — no state assessments. We’ve been approved for the BEST Grant and will be building a new school. I want services to help think about what an implementation and new school could be/look like. 1:1 district. Bandwidth is not an issue in the district. We have SmartBoards in most or all classrooms. Currently, SmartBoards are being used as glorified tech blackboards. We received a BEST Grant to build a new building to open August 2020. There is a plan to increase tech and bring into this new building. Too many times districts have gone 1:1, purchasing the devices w/o training. Implementing without training. Districts are innovating, but needing to learn how to use tech to enhance, not replace. Leveraging tech will help us meet district goals and focus on instructional practice, not just the technology.
